(1798-1878)
Bosnian Zionist. He was born in Sarajevo. As rabbi to the Sephardi congregation in Semlin, near Belgrade, he encouraged Jewish settlement in Palestine. In 1874 he settled in Jerusalem. His writings supported a return to Israel on religious grounds.
